A group of like minded individuals come forward they could do something for the betterment of the chronically drought hit and poverty stricken Anantapur district and other parts of Andhra Pradesh, which face acute drinking and agricultural water supply. The district also has a sizable number of physically and mentally handicapped children. Due to poverty parents of these children are unable to send them to special schools. The thought soon took shape as some like minded officers of various banks and financial institutions apart from Philanthropists have come forward to support the project. Without waiting for Governmental support, they have contributed money from their own earnings and established a special school for the disabled in Anantapur.

Born in Beluguppa village in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh, Karanam Venkateswarlu is a graduate in science and worked as an officer of the State Bank of India for over 30 years. He has worked in the remotest of rural areas and has complete understanding of the problems faced by the rural community. He has been a trade unionist and was the General Secretary of the All India State Bank Officers Association and has done yeomen service to the working class. He has also been involved in several rural development and welfare activities all through his career. His services were recognized at national level when he was chosen to receive the prestigious Indira Gandhi Priyadarshini Award for the year 1996. The award was given for his outstanding services to the humanity and achievements and contributions to the society.

Mr. Venkateswarlu opted out of Government service and started The Rural Education and Development Trust with the help of other like minded friends.

D. GuruMurthy, an officer of the State Bank of India has opted out of Government service and is now engaged full time in the activities of the Trust, putting to good use his experience and expertise. He is an expert in preparation of schemes for the improvement of small and marginal farmers and village artisans.
